Zimbabwe took only one game to get back to winning ways as they defeated Uganda by eight runs in the third match of the ongoing Capricorn Tri-Nation series on Thursday, April 21. It turned out to be an extremely agonising day for Uganda, commonly known as Victoria Pearls, as they also lost the first game of the day to Namibia by 12 runs.

Zimbabwe skipper Mary-Anne Musonda won the toss for the second consecutive time and chose to bat first on a used wicket from the first game of the day (Namibia vs Uganda). Uganda bowlers picked up from where they left against Namibia and didn't allow the Zimbabwe openers to fly away with the run rate.

Chipo Mugeri Tiripano started well yet again as she scored 31 out of Zimbabwe's score of 43 after the end of the six-over powerplay. The skipper of Victoria Pearls, Consylate Nimungu, brought herself into the attack in the seventh over and provided her side with the first breakthrough.

She trapped Sharne Mayers in front of her stumps as Mayers fell for eight. The Uganda skipper struck yet again as she dismissed her counterpart in the ninth over to peg Zimbabwe further back. But Tiripano kept the scoreboard ticking with an odd boundary at regular intervals.

Wicket-keeper batter Modester Mupachikwa, who came to bat at number four, was dropped in the 12th over but she failed to make the most of it as she was caught at mid-wicket in the 15th over.

Janet Mbabazi, who dismissed Mupachikwa, also picked up two more wickets in the same over, including the prized scalp of Tiripano, and put Uganda into the ascendancy. Zimbabwe never managed to recover from Mbabazi's scorching spell and folded for 100 in 19.5 overs. Mbabazi finished with a brilliant four-fer and only gave away 19 runs in her four-over spell.

In reply, Uganda got off to a horrible start as they lost their first three batters for just 20 runs inside seven overs. They never really looked in the run chase as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Uganda's star with the ball, Mbabazi showed her ability with the bat as well as she hit a few boundaries but couldn't keep up with the required run rate and fell for 21. Uganda ultimately got restricted to 92 for the loss of eight wickets in their 20 overs as Zimbabwe's disciplined bowling effort turned out to be just too good for them.
