Heather Graham’s all-round performance helped Western Fury to claim an easy win over Victoria Women. Victoria Women won the toss and elected to field first. Put into bat, Western Fury got off to a great start. Openers Nicole Bolton and Chloe Piparo made a 64-run steady partnership before the later one got dismissed by giving a catch to King at Gully. Bolton’s innings came to an end in the 17th over at 39 off 41 with 5 fours. Vlaeminck took the catch at deep mid wicket and sent her to the dugout.
After the openers’ dismissals, Sophie Devine and Heather Graham started building another partnership and playing strokes all around the ground. Devine took 45 balls to reach 53 which comprised of 6 fours and a six, before getting dismissed to a deep mid wicket catch by Sterno. Along with her, Graham’s well-made 60 off 71 helped her team to score 213 in 37.2 overs. She lost her wicket in the 38th over. After her dismissal, wickets started falling at a regular intervals and Western Fury ended up scoring 270.
Chasing 271, Victoria got their first blow when Elyse Villani was dismissed in the 2nd over to Devine. Another opener Sophie Molineux and Meg Lanning started constructing the innings. Lanning hit 5 boundaries over deep cover, fine leg and deep mid wicket to Cleary and took her team to 30/1 at the end of the 5th over. Before she moved forward, Lanning got dismissed at the short extra cover, catch taken by Devine. Molineux stood strong at one end and scored a 96-ball 73 before dismissed to Graham. Western Fury's victory was set up by the impressive bowling performance by Peschel, Devine, Graham and King. Peschel picked up 3 wickets while others bagged 2 wickets each.

Rene Farrell’s 6-wickets haul went in vain as an all-round performance from Sammy-Jo Johnson helped Queensland Fire to a convincing win over NSW Breakers in their first match. NSW Breakers chose to bat first and got off a good start by openers Alyssa Healy and Rachael Haynes but Johnson handed over the first breakthrough by taking Haynes at 21. Healy too lost her wicket within 10 overs after scoring 24 off 23 with 8 fours.
After Perry’s dismissal in the 12th over, they couldn’t make any steady partnership as the wickets started falling regularly. With Barsby’s 3, Birkett, Kimmince and Johnson’s 2 each and Prestwidge’s 1 wicket haul restricted NSW Breakers’ innings within 149 on board at 36 overs.
Chasing 150 became too hard for Queensland Fire as they lost both their openers Beth Mooney and Kirby Short very cheaply while middle order batters Tess Cooper and Jess Duffin both went for a duck. Grace Harris and Dellissa Kimmince were dismissed after scoring 1 each and soon they started struggling at 20/6 at the end of the 6 overs.
At that moment, Josie Dooley and Johnson came to their side’s rescue. They both resurrect the innings and did a wonderful job with a partnership of 124 runs for the seventh wicket before Johnson became Trenaman’s victim at 67. Her 90 ball 67 comprised of 10 fours and 2 sixes.
Rene Farrell did a wonderful job by picking 6 wickets in 9 overs giving only 17 runs but Dooley worked herself at one end, scoring 52* off 107 and handed over the victory to her team.
Brief Scores:
Queensland Fire 150/9 (S Johnson 67, R Farrell 6/17) beat NSW Breakers 149/10 (A Healy 24, J Barsby 3/6) by 1 wicket.

Corinne Hall’s 86 guided Tasmanian Tigers to an easy win over ACT Meteors. ACT Meteors won the toss and elected to bat first. Opener Claire Koski was dismissed at 9 after giving a catch to wicket-keeper Redmayne. Katie Mack and Erin Osborne started playing consciously and took the team to 87 before Osborne got dismissed at Point by Thompson. She scored 31 off 36 with 4 fours. Middle order batters did not make much of an impression, as they became 128 for 5 in 25 overs. Mack, at the other end, anchored the innings till 29th over; scored an 80-ball 57 with 8 fours before her dismissal to wicket-keeper Redmayne. Clara Iemma’s 35 off 46 helped them to post a decent competitive total of 218 on board.
While chasing, Tasmania Women lost their opener Redmayne at 1, who got trapped by LBW. The other opener Daffara too was unable to build a partnership and became the victim of Jensen. She was dismissed by giving a catch to Bates at first slip after scoring 15 off 16. Amy Satterthwaite got out by a direct throw from Cooke at 10.
After that, Emma Thompson and Corinne Hall built a 155-run partnership for the fifth wicket before the former lost her wicket to Burns, after giving a catch to Reakes at the short mid-wicket region. She scored 60 off 107 with 5 fours. Hall played a blistering knock of 86 off 98 with 7 fours. Along with her knock, Meg Phillips’ 23 off 31 and Veronika Pyke’s 8 off 8 guided Tasmania Women to an easy win.
