The Selection panel of Cricket West Indies announced the Windies Women’s squad for the upcoming series against the WHITE FERNS. The tour includes three ODIs and five T20s, and the series will be played from 4th to 25th March in New Zealand.

The three ODIs will be played in Christchurch, as part of the ICC women’s championship; while the T20 matches will be the biggest event for the players, as Women’s T20 Championship will be held later this year, and these matches will help to prepare for the big event.

The Windies are the defending champions; they won the last tournament in 2016 which was held in India.

The Windies Women will have a preparation camp in Barbados before they leave for the New Zealand; during which they’ll have fitness and training sessions. They will reach New Zealand on February 22; where they will have another camp before the official series starts.

Chairman of Windies Cricket Board, Courtney Browne said, “This series is very important one for our team. We played well at home against Sri Lanka last year and we want to continue that momentum. We will be hosting the ICC Women’s World T20 event later this year and as defending champions, we will want to put on a good show in front of home supporters and win again. This tour will help us assess where we are and tighten up on those areas that need close attention.”

He added: “The original squad included Shakera Selman, one of our most experienced bowlers, but she is unable to make the trip due to injury and has been replaced by Tremayne Smartt. We wish a Shakera a speedy recovery and hope to see her back on the field soon. We welcome back Tremayne into the squad and know she is capable of delivering on the international stage.”

The 14-member squad will be led by Stafanie Taylor and Anisha Mohammed will continue to be her deputy in both the ODI and T20 series.
