WI VS SL - 3rd ODI

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first. Rain meant that officially the match was reduced to 45 overs a side. Being forced to bat first West Indies start was not as comfortable as they would have liked, and they lost one of the openers with the total score on 8.

 

Skipper Stafanie Taylor took charge of the middle with Hayley Matthews 41(75). Both the batters took the innings forward to the 91-run mark. Taylor completed her second half-century of the series, she scored 55(82) but then Shashikala Siewardene bowled her.

 

Merissa Aguilleira 37(42) took the charge to carry the innings forward along with others, but wickets fell at regular intervals that West Indies never really scored as freely as they are capable of. Only Anisa Mohammad 10(7) reached double figures and returned unbeaten.

 

West Indies women posted 182 after 45 overs for the loss of 8 wickets. Shashikala Siriwardene had been fantastic with the ball (9-1- 26-3); Inoka Ranaweera also bowled well (9-0- 24-2).

 

Sri Lanka women had to chase 183 in 45 overs to register their first victory in the tour. It was a good total in the conditions, but on the very first ball of the innings, Sri Lanka was one down as Nipuni Hansika was trapped lbw by Shakera Selman.

 

Chamari Atapattu 11(23) was soon out caught behind as Selman took another wicket. Dilani Manodara 42(89) seemed in good touch and played some attacking shots. Half of the team were now out, and the score was 101 in 31.4 overs.

 

Now it was quite hard to chase down the desired target. Only Rebeca Vandort 34(42) was able to register any resistance and Sri Lanka was all-out for 142 with 26 balls spare. West Indies women defended the total with dominance and Selman (8-1- 30-3) and Taylor (6.4-0- 29-3) were outstanding with the ball.
