Bob Carter has been named the interim coach of New Zealand tour of Australia due to the leave of absence taken by Haidee Tiffen, New Zealand Head coach. She will not be the part of the three-match Rose Bowl series beginning on February 22.

When asked about being the temporary replacement for Tiffen, Carter replied, “I am fine about it as it's a need for New Zealand cricket. We need to fill the gap as Haidee, who has gone for a break to reset things which I think is great. It's difficult to be a head coach at times.”

New Zealand lost the ODI series to India but won the final match and continued their form in the T20Is which resulted in a clean sweep. Bob Carter said reflecting back on the India tour, “Girls are in pretty good form, the great thing is that the last ODI against India and 3 good wins in the T20I against India as well...So it's good to be a part of the team that is moving forward.”

Tiffen has requested a leave of absence due to her team’s poor performance in the World T20 campaign review – which recommended all coaching and support staff roles be advertised at the completion of their contract periods.

On which Carter said, “I feel like that they have been great in the T20I against India but Australia will be the challenge. We know how good they are in little adversary the team stands up.”

When asked about what he would get to the White Ferns side, Bob Carter said, “Well, I suppose I am going to be the oldest person their so experience, cricket knowledge and also assess the team. If Haidee would be going on the tour she would be doing the same thing, just assess where we can improve. Also, give girls the licence to ‘Go out there with no fear’. We have everything to gain as it's Australia. It’s going to be three tough games but we should take one game at a time and  try to go to Perth hit that game hard on Friday and hopefully until we get a result.”

White Ferns will arrive in Perth on Monday (February 18).
