Veda Krishnamurthy gets honoured at Karnataka State Sports Awards

India allrounder Veda Krishnamurthy has been honoured with the Ekalavya Award in the Karnataka State Sports Awards for 2019 that was announced on Sunday (November 1). C T Ravi, the Minister of Kannada and Culture of Karnataka, released the list of winners on Karnataka Rajyotsava - the formation day of the state.



Krishnamurthy, who has been a vital cog in the Indian team, has been awarded for her contribution to cricket. She has played 76 T20Is and 48 ODIs for the country and has scored 879 and 825 runs in each format respectively to date.

For Karnataka, she has played 36 T20s and 38 List A matches and has amassed 693 and 679 runs respectively. Krishnamurthy was also a part of the Indian team that reached the 2017 50-over World Cup final and the 2020 T20 World Cup summit clash. The 28-year-old is currently in the UAE for the Women's T20 Challenge scheduled to begin on Wednesday (November 4).



The last time Karnataka State Sports Awards was announced was in January 2018. Since then, the event has not happened due to the political situation in the state last year and was postponed in May, this year, due to the pandemic.



Among the other recipients, former cricketer and India's first Test captain Shantha Rangaswamy was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award for her contribution to women's cricket both in the state and the country.
