The Hobart Hurricanes have stepped up bolstering their squad ahead of WBBL|05 which will move into it's own standalone window for the first time.

The Hurricanes have announced signing of Australian fast bowler, Belinda Vakarewa, to their squad. The signing of the 21-year-old quick from the Sydney Thunder takes the tally of new players at the Hurricanes this off-season to three, following the signings of Australian Ashes representatives, all-rounder Nicola Carey and fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck.

Vakarewa relocated to Tasmania earlier this month and will depart for Brisbane later this week for a training camp in preparation for the Australia A Tour of England running simultaneously with the Ashes series.

Playing in all four seasons of the WBBL to date Vakarewa has played 39 matches, taking 21 wickets at an economy rate of a tick over six and a strike rate of 21.3.

Vakarewa was part of the Australian squad for the 2017 ICC Women's World Cup, making her ODI debut during the tournnament in Bristol vs. Sri Lanka.

"We were very pleased to have the opportunity to bring Belinda down to our program in Tasmania," said Hurricanes Head Coach, Salliann Briggs.

"She adds more fire to our attack and is another in a line of up and coming fast bowlers within the Australian setup, we're looking forward to seeing what she'll bring."

"The move to Tasmania is a great opportunity to further my development," said Vakarewa.

"I know that I'm joining a program that is on the rise and I'll be doing all I can to contribute as much as possible."

The Hurricanes, who had disappointing campaigns in which they could manage to win only four games in previous two seasons.
