Match Preview: India vs England

Date: 25 February 2019

Venue: Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai

India has secured a one-match lead in the series after winning the first game by 66 runs. England would look to level the series in the upcoming match, which would be exciting to watch. Both the teams will have to reflect back on the drawing board as India have fell short in the fielding and batting department and England’s batting has tumbled.

Players to Watch Out for

Smriti Mandhana: She has been India’s Miss Consistent although didn’t get going in the first match. She was the leading run getter and the Player of the series against New Zealand in the recent series after which she rose to the number one spot in the ICC ODI Batting Rankings. Mandhana has 1822 runs in 48 matches with an average 41.40. India will be counting on their No. 1 batter to score well in the second ODI.

Katherine Brunt: England’s All-rounder Brunt put up a good fight with Jemimah Rodrigues in the first few overs of the game. Her aggression while bowling and fielding were evident and noticeable. Brunt made her comeback in the first game after a shoulder injury which had ruled her out from the World T20. Brunt has the most number of the wickets against India to her name i.e. 34 wickets.

Who Said What

“It wasn’t to be but we’re still in the series and we’ve made quite a habit of coming back into series after going 1-0 down. We did it in the World Cup in 2017 and we did it against South Africa last summer.”- Heather Knight

“Well, I think it’s important to start the series on a winning note for the coming matches having said that. We will be preparing well for the second ODI.”- Mithali Raj
