South Africa were exiled from World cricket and didn’t play any international cricket between 1972 and 1997. On their return, they were soon involved in their first World Cup and have made the semi-finals since then.
South Africa were the fourth side to play test cricket in 1960. They last played a test in 2014 against India.
Much is being done to raise the profile of Women’s cricket in South Africa and their showing in the 2017 ICC World Cup did much to do so. Under the captaincy of Dane van Niekerk, South Africa have become a difficult side to beat.
South Africa are still developing after being out of the international arena for such a long time. More investment and players being exposed to domestic T20 competitions can only see them become a force in women’s cricket for years to come.
