On Wednesday, 20 June, the 6th annual Cricket West Indies and West Indies Player Association Awards were held, in a ceremony that saw Stafanie Taylor and Deandra Dottin win big.

The West Indian captain and currently the second best-ranked all-rounder, Stafanie Taylor, won the highest honours as she not only took home the ODI Cricketer of the Year Award but, was also named the Cricketer of the Year.

Taylor has represented the West Indies in 111 ODIs, scoring 4230 runs for her team at an impressive average of 44.07 and has 5 centuries to her name. Her high score is a mammoth 171. The all-rounder has also taken 130 wickets with her right arm off-spin, claiming 5 four-fers in the process. Her best bowling figures are 4-17.

But, Taylor is equally effective in the shorter format. In 84 T20I’s, she has amassed 2582 runs, at an average of 37.42 and has a high score of 90 runs. With the ball, she has taken 68 wickets, her best bowling figures being 3-10. Her ability to deliver in both formats of the game and contribute with the bat and the ball are the reasons why she was awarded the Cricketer of the Year award.

Winning the award for the T-20 Cricketer of the Year was Deandra Dottin. In October, she became the first woman to hit two T-20 international centuries, her first one of which came in just 38 balls, making it the fastest T-20 century in women’s cricket.

In 97 T-20 innings, Dottin has scored 2039 runs, with her personal best being 112*. The destructive middle-order batter is also handy with the ball, bowling right-arm fast medium. The all-rounder has claimed 45 wickets in the T-20 format with her best figures being 4-12. Dottin is a force to be reckoned with in this format as she can score runs at an unbelievable rate and can take the game away from the opposition, which she has proved time and again.
