Australia have got a scare ahead of their T20 World Cup opener, with Tayla Vlaeminck under an injury scanner. She appeared at an event wearing a moon boot on Wednesday (February 19), reported cricket.com.au.

A controlled ankle motion boot – the official name of moon boot – is used in case of severe sprains, fractures and tendon or ligament tears in the ankle or foot.

“’Tay' unfortunately has a new fashion accessory to her foot, which the medical staff are working through,” said Ellyse Perry, suggesting that it could be a serious injury.

“Anything that requires a moon boot isn't overly great. The whole squad has their fingers and toes crossed for Tay but I don't think it's overly positive. We should know in the next 24 hours. From a players' point of view, we're very supportive of Tay. She's an important member of our squad and we just want to wish her all the best.”

Vlaeminck had set the tongues wagging with her pace, more so during her display against India in the tri-series. She was one of the players to watch out for in this T20 World Cup. However, if she gets ruled out of the competition, Belinda Vakarewa could take her place, though she might be slower than Vlaeminck.
