Amara Carr will lead the 18-member Sunrisers squad in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy as well as the Regional T20 competition, the club announced on Wednesday (May 27). Naomi Dattani will be her deputy.

“It’s been brilliant to witness the hard work the players have put in during our first winter together, both those on full time contracts and those who have juggled work and education commitments,” said Trevor Griffin, the Head Coach of Sunrisers.

“As a coach you cannot ask for more than players willing to grab any opportunity to train, expose themselves and develop. During a challenging period we have been fortunate to have been able to continue to work with the group, in a number of different environments and the players have reaped the rewards.”

Centrally contracted England players Mady Villiers and Fran Wilson have also been named in the squad and are expected to be available for the initial rounds. Kate Coppack, Katherine Speed and Emily Woodhouse are the three new faces in the unit.

“I must thank all of our regional partners who opened facilities for us throughout the winter, and supported us as we navigated restrictions and, often last minute, changes,” said Griffin. “Myself, and everyone at Sunrisers, cannot wait to watch this talented group of players showcase their abilities over the coming months.”

Sunrisers open their campaign with a clash against South East Stars on Saturday (May 29) at the County Ground in Chelmsford. They lost all six of their fixtures last season.
