Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) vice-president K Mathivanan has stepped down from his position on Wednesday (July 29), the board announced in a statement. The Executive Committee held an emergency meeting on Wednesday afternoon and accepted his resignation and unanimously decided Dr. Jayantha Dharmadasa will be replacing Mathivanan.

Mathivanan’s resignation comes in the wake of the recent unanimous decision of the executive committee to hold an inquiry against him after reports came in for his unethical practices in his capacity as an office-bearer. Mathivanan had sent his resignation to the SLC Secretary Mohan de Silva.

According to reports in newsfirst.lk, Mathivanan stepped down from his post expressing disappointment at the conduct of the local cricketing authority. “The current administration carries out their duties without transparency and integrity,” Mathivanan said in his letter.

“At both Executive Committee and Management Committee meetings, my opinions have not been sought nor heeded,” he claimed. In his letter, Mathivanan also stated that his objections to certain board decisions were not paid heed to and he has not been notified with notices of meeting and board papers.

He further stated he did not endorse decisions that were taken without discussions and also felt that the SLC conduct is unfavourable to good order and discipline. “I do not wish to be a party to such flippant decision making,” Mathivanan stressed before stating that he had fulfilled all his duties to the core and wish to work for the betterment of cricket while being outside the administration.
