Sri Lanka have started a residential training camp in which the 23-member squad will be preparing for their upcoming international assignment and the ODI World Cup Qualifiers. The camp has begun on September 9 at Sara Oval.
Earlier, a 27-member squad had a training camp in Dambulla in August, from which the board has selected 23 athletes to participate in the ongoing training camp. The squad include the senior players from the team and a couple of school athletes - Vishmi Gunaratne and Kavnaya Kavindi - who have been making headlines in age-group cricket.
Gunaratne - the youngest member in the squad - has been representing the Gampaha Ratnawali Balika Vidyalaya cricket team since 2016. The 16-year-old allrounder was the youngest to score a century in local first-class women's cricket.
Kavindi from Devapathiraja College, the champions of the Inter-School Cricket Tournament, is also in the squad. Sri Lanka international Kaveesha Dilhari, domestic stars - Sachini Nissansala and Imesha Dulani - from the Devapathiraja College are a part of the training camp.
