Southern Vipers allrounder Maia Bouchier has been suspended from bowling in ECB competition after she was found to have exceeded the 15-degree threshold as defined in the Illegal Bowling Regulations. The 21-year-old, who played a key role in Vipers’ Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy-winning campaign, bowled a total of 18 overs.

However, after her action was reported by the on-field umpires Jeremy Lloyds and Yvonne Dolphin-Cooper, during Vipers’ second match, against Western Storm at Bristol on August 31, she bowled only four overs – one against South East Stars and three in the final. An independent assessment of her bowling action was conducted at Loughborough University.

Bouchier has been advised to work on her bowling action immediately before she can be eligible to request a re-assessment. She won’t be able to bowl in any ECB competitions until Bouchier passes the independent re-assessment of her bowling action.

Bouchier played in all seven games for Vipers including the final and scored 183 runs at 30.50. She hit an unbeaten half-century against Western Storm. Her only wicket in the tournament came in the final when she dismissed Northern Diamonds skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill, in Vipers’ 38-run victory at Edgbaston.
