Sophia Dunkley has signed up with Surrey for the 2020 County season, it was announced on Thursday (February 6). She makes the move from Middlesex, where she played since her debut in 2013.

Dunkley played for Surrey Stars in the Women’s Cricket Super League and would have familiar faces in the setup. Following a successful 2018 in the competition, she made her international debut, playing 10 T20Is including five in the T20 World Cup 2018.

I’m really looking forward to getting going with the girls,” said Dunkley after the announcement. “Having worked with some of the coaches and players during my time with the Surrey Stars in the KSL, I know what a professional and exciting set up it is. It’s a brilliant opportunity for me to get a new challenge and play in Division 1.”

We are all incredibly excited at having secured the signing of Sophia.  First and foremost, she is a fantastic person who will only add value to our strong unit of players and we all know what qualities she will bring to us on the pitch as well,” said Richard Bedbrook, head coach of Surrey.

“We have a strong relationship with Sophia here having had her as part of the Surrey Stars for three of the four years of the KSL and once I knew she was looking to play Division 1 cricket, the decision to say yes to her joining us was an easy one. We really want to help support Sophia’s ambitions of reclaiming a place in the full England side and with the training and match opportunities that Surrey can provide, combined with her determination to improve and perform, we are confident that Sophia will add a huge amount of quality to our homegrown squad of players.”
