Scotland register massive win over debutant Germany

The ICC Women's T20 World Cup Europe Region Qualifier at Cartagena, Spain started with a low-scoring clash between Germany and Scotland. Scotland emerged victorious, winning by eight wickets.

Germany, batting first in their maiden T20 international, crumbled. Scotland tore apart their batting order, restricting them to just 37 runs. None of German batters were able to reach double figures, as the Scottish bowlers exerted pressure. Though Germany did not lose all their wickets, the fact that they scored at an agonizingly slow rate meant they were unable to post a challenging total on the board.

The pace of the innings was set by the opening pair. Janet Ronalds scored just five runs off the 25 deliveries she faced, while her partner gathered four runs in 30 balls. The remaining batters followed a similar trend. In fact, the highest contribution the total was made by the extras, that accounted for 13 of the 37 runs.

Priyanaz Chatterji did most of the damage, taking three wickets for just five runs. Abtaha Maqsood claimed two scalps, while Hannah Rainey added another to the tally.

In their response, Scotland got off to a rocky start. They lost opener Lorna Jack and skipper Kathryn Bryce in a space of three deliveries to be reduced to 2-15. Sarah Bryce (19) and Becky Glen then guided their team to an eight wicket win without further hiccups. Scotland won with 84 balls to spare and claimed the two points on the line.

Emma Bargna bagged the two Scottish wickets, making her the first German woman to take a wicket in T20Is. The match saw 12 debutants as all the German players and Megan McColl from Scotland were presented their maiden caps.
