Scotland overcome Netherlands in rain-shortened encounter

Rain had a major say in the third T20I of the Women’s Quadrangular T20I series match between Netherlands and Scotland, which the latter won by five runs by the Duckworth-Lewis Stern Method at Sportpark Het Schootsveld in Deventer on Friday (August 9).

Netherlands had won the toss and chosen to bat in a game that was shortened to 16-overs-a-side. Openers Babette de Leede and Robine Rijke quickly got off the blocks. The latter scored 39 off 35 balls, before she fell in the 14^th over trying to up the ante. Apart from the duo, 17-year-old Iris Zwilling was the only other one to reach double digits, as the hosts could only post 86 for 6 in the 16 overs.

Generally damp conditions mean that the role of spinners is a trice, more so if you are a finger spinner. However, Katherine Fraser, Scotland's off-spinner, all of 14 years and 122 days, showed immense control to finish with figures of 4-0-17-3. She was responsible for providing the initial breakthrough as well as picked up a wicket in the final over of the innings.

In reply, Scotland set about their task of knocking the required runs off without much fuss. They had raced to 41 for no loss in seven overs, before rain halted play yet again. Lorna Jack was unbeaten on 28 off 26.

By virtue of this game, Netherlands have two losses in as many games and are at the bottom of the table, while Scotland moved to the second position with one win and a loss.
