Melbourne Renegades on Thursday (August 20), announced the signings of Amy Satterthwaite, Lea Tahuhu and Erin Fazackerley for the sixth edition of Women's Big Bash League, with the Kiwi southpaw as the captain.

Satterthwaite had missed WBBL05 due to the birth of her child but will return as last year’s skipper, Jess Duffin, announced her pregnancy late in 2019.

“It’ll be great to rejoin the team in a playing capacity this season after Jess (Duffin) did such a fantastic job leading the group last year,” the southpaw said after the appointment.

“I’ve enjoyed getting back into training in recent months and I’ve embraced the challenge of working on my game after a few sleepless nights, but it’s all good fun. I’m looking forward to working alongside our new coach Lachie Stevens and seeing what the team can achieve.”

Fazackerley, who has played for Hobart Hurricanes, scored 243 runs in WBBL05, including a half-century in her penultimate game.

“Going into a new environment presents a great opportunity for me to take my game to a new level,” said the right-hander, who also picked up a wicket in WBBL 05.

“The Renegades have got a lot of talent in the squad so I’m looking forward to working hard alongside them and hopefully having a successful season.”

With Renegades’ second-leading wicket-taker, Tahuhu, also in the squad, the team in red look all set to enjoy a dominating WBBL 06, which has pleased Lachlan Stevens, the head coach, to no ends.

Amy and Lea bring so much leadership and skill to the group and we’re excited about seeing what Erin can do this season,” said Stevens, who was appointed to the role earlier this year.

“There’s obviously some continued uncertainty about how the season will unfold but we’ll just focus on preparing as best we can and tackle the challenges that confront us along the way.”

Lizelle Lee is the third overseas player in the Renegades squad, apart from Satterthwaite and Tahuhu.

Squad so far: Amy Satterthwaite (c), Makinley Blows, Maitlan Brown, Josie Dooley, Jess Duffin, Erin Fazackerley, Ella Hayward, Lizelle Lee, Carly Leeson, Sophie Molineux, Courtney Neale, Molly Strano, Lea Tahuhu, Georgia Wareham, Courtney Webb.
