Suzie Bates and Amy Satterthwaite bring home the final match of the series as India win the series 2-1. Suzie Bates scored 57 off 64 balls and her partnership with Satterthwaite helped her team triumph over formidable India with a 8 wicket win in the third One-Day International at the Seddon Park in Hamilton on Friday (February 01).

New Zealand won the toss and put India to bat first. The batting fell as the openers got out for low scores with the onus falling on the middle order for the first time. Deepti Sharma came to the centre in the 4th over after the departure of Smriti Mandhana (1). It fell upon her to reconstruct the innings with cameos of 24 with Harmanpreet Kaur and 13 with Hemalatha. Anna Peterson yorked Sharma at 52 after which India paddled down.

Peterson’s finsished with 4 for 28 and another splendid display by Tahuhu, as she finished the innings with 3 wickets off 26 runs with the wicket of Yadav. Also, Kasperek and Kerr together took the remaining 3 wickets.

New Zealand took just 29.2 overs to reach the target of 149 on the shoulders of their skipper and experienced Bates. After the intial wicket of Down, Bates and Satterthwaite formed a strong partnership to chase down the total. Although Bates lost her wicket after scoring a fifty, Devine finished the innings alongside her skipper.

Bates who was bowled out by Yadav, an inside edge the bowl hit the stumps. With a seemingly small total to defend, Suzie Bates said on air that “Our bowlers have bowled well. We regrouped and it's a type of wicket that suits our batters.”

New Zealand skipper, Amy Satterthwaite said, "It was all about the pride today. Not to show the public but also to show ourselves. Everyone stepped up and played their part today." after she ended the innings with an unbeaten 66 off 74 balls.

Satterthwaite finished the match with consecutive boundaries of Deepti Sharma to which she said, "It's nice to contribute. I have been wanting to get the team over the line. It’s nice to have to do it today feel like I have been hitting the ball a bit better."

The silver lining for India has been youngsters stepping up and middle-order getting exposed to the New Zealand conditions. “Glad team has won the series. I am happy that youngsters like Deepti Sharma and Jemimah are amongst runs,” said captain Mithali Raj at the post match ceremony.

It was also Indian Skipper Mithali Raj’s 200th ODI becoming the first woman to achieve the feet. She is the highest run-getter in ODIs with 6622 runs at an average of 51.33, including seven hundreds. Although India lost today, India win the series 2-1 against the White Ferns at their home turf.

Smriti Mandhana was named the player of the series. She was the top run scorer with 196 runs at an average of 98. "Really pleased by our first win ever in New Zealand,” she said at the post-match presentation.

Anna Peterson was named the player of the match for her incredible bowling figures and taking wickets at crucial stages.
