Samantha Bates, the young left-arm spinner, has extended her contract with Sydney Thunder for a couple of years, the club announced on Wednesday (November 25).
Bates, playing her sixth straight WBBL season for Thunder, has picked 68 wickets. In WBBL06 itself, she has 15 wickets at an economy of 5.76 and is part of the WBBL team of the tournament.
“Our team is in a really good position right now and it’s really exciting to see the young guns coming through like Phoebe Litchfield and Hannah Darlington and I’m just really excited that I can still be part of it,” said Bates.
“Right now, I really can’t see myself playing for a different team.”
Bates’ WBBL best of three for nine was against Perth Scorchers this season and she also bowled a double-wicket maiden in a rain-truncated contest against defending champions Brisbane Heat. She made her intention of being a one-club player, given the promise Thunder have shown.
