As per the recommendations of the Indian Cricketers' Association (ICA), Assam Cricket Association (ACA) have inducted Runumi Borkataky, a former player, as a member of their apex council. The appointment was made on Friday (July 17).

Under ACA's new Supreme Court approved constitution, of the nine-member apex council, two must be players - one male and one female. Borkaraky's appointment has been made accordingly. She is the first female player member to be inducted into ACA's apex council. Noba Konwar is the other player member already part of the council

"I congratulate Runumi and also thank ICA for their recommendation," ACA Secretary Devajit Saikia told The News Mill. "It's a major development for the ACA to have its first woman member in the apex council. I'm sure it will help the ACA take up some major initiatives for the development of women's cricket in the state in the near future."

Borkataky represented Assam across age-groups between the years of 1989 to 2010. She hails from Nagaon and played in an era when the Women's Cricket Association of India and the Board of Control for Cricket in India were in charge of the women's game at different times.
