White Ferns registered another easy win of 106 runs over West Indies.

West Indies elected to field first after winning the toss. Batting first, White Ferns put up a massive total of 185 on board at the end of 20 overs. Skipper Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine started off really well and added 33 runs before the former got dismissed in the 5th over for 14 off 13.

Amy Satterthwaite and Katey Martin both constructed the innings wonderfully and added 124 runs, which is a women’s T20 world record partnership as well. With her 71 runs off 42 balls which included 9 fours and 2 sixes, Satterthwaite brought up her maiden T20 fifty. Katie Martin scored another brilliant knock of 65 off 42, with 11 fours.

While chasing, West Indies lost their first wicket in the form of Hayley Matthews. A brilliant catch by Amelia Kerr dismissed her for 5 in the second over. Lea Tahuhu gave the second break-through while taking the in-form batter Taylor’s wicket in the 3rd over.

No other batters were able to stay long at the crease as the wickets fell at a regular interval. All-rounder Sophie Devine picked up three crucial wickets; while Kasperek took two and sealed the West Indies innings within 79 runs in 20 overs.

18-year-old Kate Heffernan made her T20I debut for White Ferns in this match and picked up her first wicket in the form of Afy Fletcher.

Both the teams will play the 3rd T20I match on 20th March at Pukekura Park, New Plymouth.
