Another series of the ICC Women’s Championship has started at Dambulla between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, where Javeria Khan set the platform for Pakistan’s win. Both the teams previously played with New Zealand and West Indies respectively, where Pakistan won an ODI against their counterpart but Sri Lanka couldn’t register a win in the series.
Sri Lanka captain Chamari Atapattu won the toss and elected to field first. Batting first, Pakistan got into trouble when experienced opener Nahida Khan and newcomer Muneeba Ali were dismissed within 5th over.
After the two dismissals, Captain Bismah Maroof and vice-captain Javeria Khan started building a partnership and both added 48 runs on board before the captain got out by a delivery from Siriwardene. Soon after the captain’s dismissal, Sidra Ameen also got dismissed without scoring a run. Javeria Khan played a brilliant knock of unbeaten 113 and helped to put up a competitive total of 250, along with all-rounder Nida Dar and former captain Sana Mir’s handy knocks of 34 and 27 respectively. Natalia Pervaiz played a cameo of unbeaten 21 runs of 20 balls with one four and a six.
While chasing, Sri Lanka lost their experienced opener Hasini Perera on a duck and another opener Nipuni Hansika also got dismissed by a delivery from Sana Mir. Atapattu started constructing the innings patiently but no other batter performed well except Shashikala Siriwardene’s pivotal knock of 44 off 74 with 6 fours.
Pakistan bowlers didn’t allow the Sri Lanka batters to settle for a long time at the crease. Captain Bismah Maroof picked up 3 wickets while Mir bagged two. Nida Dar, Diana Baig, Natalia Pervaiz and Nashra Sandhu got a wicket each; sealed Sri Lanka’s innings within 181 and register their first win by 69 runs.
Javeria Khan was adjudged the ‘Player of The Match’ for her match-winning unbeaten knock of 113.
Pakistan 250/6 (Javeria K 113, S Siriwardene 2/40) beat Sri Lanka 181/10 (C Atapattu 46, B Maroof 3/17) by 69 runs.
