Brisbane Heat claimed an easy win over Adelaide Strikers at Harrup Park, Mackay.

After Adelaide Strikers elected to field first, openers Grace Harris and Beth Mooney started off well but failed to capitalize that as Strikers’ struck in the fifth over. In-form opener Mooney went for mere 6 by giving a short extra cover catch to Schutt from Sophie Devine’s delivery.

With Harris’ ability to hit boundaries, Heat put up 42 on board with the loss of 1 wicket after the power play. Sophie Devine again handed over the second breakthrough to her team by taking Sammy-Jo Johnson in the eighth over.

Heat got the big blow when their set batter Grace Harris got dismissed in the 10th over after scoring 47 off 37 with 6 fours and a six. Bates took a short extra cover catch in Hazell’s delivery and sent Harris in. Soon Jess Jonassen went for a duck and they were reduced to 84/4 after 11 overs.

Then Josephine Dooley came to her side’s rescue, saved the embarrassment by building a steady partnership with Kirby Short. They both added 59 runs before the latter became Amanda Wellington’s victim. Schutt picked up Laura Harris and Jemma Barsby back to back in the 19th over while Josephine Dooley’s 48* off 33 helped them to put up 160 on board after 20 overs.

In reply, Adelaide Strikers got off a flying start. Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine started hitting all over the ground and managed to put up 47 within the power play. They both added 75 runs before Devine got out by Kimmince’s delivery. She scored 39 off 37 with 5 fours. Soon Bates followed her after scoring 31 off 29.

After their dismissals, other batters were not able to make a steady partnership as the wickets started falling at regular intervals. Delissa Kimmince scalped 3 wickets while Sune Luus bagged 1 and Grace Harris took 1 wicket which helped them to restrict their opponent within 117 after the allotted overs and they convincingly won the match by 43 runs.

Brisbane Heat will face Melbourne Renegades tomorrow on the same ground; while Adelaide Strikers will play their next match against Hobart Hurricanes on 8th Jan at Oval, Adelaide.
