Tammy Beaumont guided England to a 17-run win over South Africa in their first unofficial warm-up T20 match at the Liberta Sports Club in Antigua on Monday. Both the teams were in the West Indies for the training camps prior to the ICC Women’s World T20.
Put into bat first, England opener Tammy Beaumont smashed a 39-ball 48 with four boundaries and a six and helped her side to put up 139/8 at the end of their allotted overs. Captain Heather Knight scored 25 and Lauren Winfield scored 19 while Sune Luus and Shabnim Ismail bagged two wickets each for South Africa.
Chasing 140, South Africa started struggling from the beginning as the top-order failed to perform. Opener Lizelle Lee top-scored 33 off 28 (4 fours, 2 sixes). Chloe Tryon smashed a quickfire 32 off 25 deliveries with 3 fours, batting at number six. Rest of the batters were not able to reach the double figures and they fell short of 17 runs.
Lindsay Smith and Anya Shrubsole picked up 3 wickets in their four overs for England.
South Africa will play their next unofficial warm-up match against India on November 1.
