YH Bhatia and Radha Yadav made a strong impression on the opening day of the Under-23 inter-state Twenty20 competition. Opening the innings, Bhatia made an unbeaten 89 to propel Baroda to 134 for 4 before Radha’s frugal returns of 5 for 11 in 3.4 overs was instrumental in Goa being dismissed for 72 at the St Paul’s College Ground in Kochi.

Meanwhile, Priya Punia, who will be travelling to New Zealand for India’s T20 Internationals, did not have a good outing. She was dismissed for 6 as Delhi were restricted to 87 for 9. After that Harleen Deol’s unbeaten 42 gave Himachal Pradesh an eight-wicket win with 1.1 overs to spare.

Kerala and Bihar bowled out Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh for 22 each respectively, while Punjab dismissed Manipur for 42.

The most contesting match of the day was between Mumbai and Haryana. Riding on SK Raut’s 37, Mumbai made 104 for 6. Haryana gave a good fight, but Manali Dakhini, the Mumbai captain, and Fatima Jaffer took two wickets each to keep Haryana to 94 for 6.
