Mumbai born Punam Raut is one of the dependable batters and a regular opener for Team India in ODIs. Starting at an early age, she used to play with the boys. She has played many pivotal knocks for her team at all levels.

She made her debut on 19th March 2009 against West Indies at Sydney and played her first T20I match against Pakistan at Taunton on 13th June, 2009. Till date, she has played in 2 Test matches and made her debut on 13th Aug 2014 against England at Wormsley.

On 15th May 2017, Raut along with Deepti Sharma made a world record opening partnership of 320 runs, contributing 109 against Ireland. This record beat both the women’s record in ODIs of 229 (by Sarah Taylor and Caroline Atkins of England) and the men’s record in ODIs of 286 (by Upul Tharanga and Sanath Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka).

Raut was a part of the Indian team in ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2017, scoring 381 runs in 9 matches and became the fifth highest run-getter in the tournament.

Apart from the national team, she played for Mumbai before; while she currently plays for Railways and West Zone in the domestic circuit.
