As one of England’s opening bowlers, Anya Shrubsole has been an important player ever since her debut in 2008. At the age of 17, Shrubsole was included in the England squad that won the 2009 ICC World Cup. Along with Katherine Brunt, she regularly opens the bowling for England. She plays county cricket for Somerset and has won the Kia Super League with Western Storm.
2017 would be an amazing year for Shrubsole as she bowled England to victory in the World Cup final returning figures of 6 for 46. It would lead to other plaudits in the following months. An MBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours list. An ICC Spirit of Cricket award soon followed. However, the accolade that will be seen as most symbolic is the honor of being the first woman to appear on the front cover of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack.
