Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday (September 13) announced its international and domestic schedule with the National Triangular One-Day Women’s Cricket Championship serving as the curtain-raiser for the 2019-20 season.

The three-team 50-over tournament will see Bismah Maroof, Nida Dar and Rameen Shamim leading Challengers, Dynamites and Blasters, respectively, at the Lahore Gymkhana Ground from September 17 to 26. Pakistani rupee 500,000 will be on offer for the winners, while the runners-up will settle for Pakistani rupee 250,000.

Additionally, for the first time, each player will be paid Pakistani rupee 10,000 as match fee and the Kookaburra cricket ball will be used for the matches to be played on a double-league basis. Six women umpires, namely, Afia Amin, Humairah Farah, Nazia Nazir, Riffat Mustafa, Sabahat Rasheed and Shakila Rafiq will officiate in the series.

“A comprehensive cricket-based schedule has been put together for women’s cricket for the forthcoming season which focuses on quality tournaments at the domestic level and an intense international schedule," Urooj Mumtaz, chair of the women’s selection panel and member of the PCB Cricket Committee, said.

"Our aim is to provide more opportunities to young cricketers than ever before in order to raise the bar of our players and to help bridge the gap between our domestic and international cricket."

The selection panel will use the championship along with the recent international performances as the basis for picking players for senior and ‘A’ teams for the forthcoming home series against Bangladesh and tour to Sri Lanka for the ACC Women’s Emerging Cup in October.

Pakistan’s calendar year also comprises two ICC Women’s Championship fixtures against India and England. The team currently sit on the fifth position in the points table, which provides direct qualification to the top four sides and host New Zealand for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2021.

“We firmly believe these activities will contribute to the PCB’s endeavours to grow the game and increase our existing pool of players so that we can form quality sides that can perform consistently at the international stage. These are exciting times for women’s cricket in Pakistan and we expect more and more young athletes will get attracted and fall in love with cricket,” Mumtaz said.

Furthermore, in the build up to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020, Pakistan will play three T20Is against the West Indies in Australia as part of tournament preparation.

Alongside competitive cricket, the PCB has slotted a number of education and game development sessions to not only hone the skills of the cricketers but to also attract next generation of women’s cricketers.

Meanwhile, other domestic competitions include the National Triangular T20 Women’s Cricket Championship, which will be held in January 2020, and a series of three 50-over and as many T20 matches between Pakistan Green and Pakistan Yellow in April 2020, featuring the top 30 female players.
