It was bowlers’ day out at Colin Maiden Park in Auckland on Sunday (February 2) which helped Central Hinds down Auckland Hearts.

Three-fers by Hannah Rowe and Melissa Hansen helped Hinds dismiss Hearts for a meagre 83. Only four Hearts batters entered double figures with none going beyond the 16-run mark.

In reply, a 63-run partnership between Natalie Dodd (38) and Anlo van Deventer (unbeaten 35) helped Hearts seal an eight-wicket win.

Meanwhile, Northern Spirit hunted down the target set by Wellington Blaze at the Cobham Oval in Whangarei to register a four-wicket victory.

Spirit didn’t get to the best of starts chasing 147. They were going decently at one four 46 before being reduced to six for 79 – losing five for 33 in the process. Xara Jetley was at the fore of it all, as she finished with a miserly one for 16 off her ten overs. Holly Topp (29) and Felicity Leydon-Davis (30) saw off the chase with an unbeaten 71-run partnerhip.

Earlier, forties by Jessica MacFadyen (43) and Priyanaz Chatterjee (42) helped Blaze put up a decent score, despite Eimear Richardson (4/28) and Kate Anderson (3/16) sharing seven wickets between them. They lost four wickets for just six runs in the middle, that greatly hampered their progress.

At Mainpower Oval in Rangiora, Canterbury Magicians came out on top against Otago Sparks to win by 119 runs.

Opting to bat, the Magicians’ top order led by Jacinta Savage (42), Natalie Cox (37) and Ella Chandler (24) got them off to a positive start, getting them to a reasonably good four for 131. Sophie Oldershaw, the leg-spinner, then led the batting collapse, picking up five wickets for just 19 runs, which reduced them to nine for 140. Melissa Banks’ unbeaten 46 then gave some respectability to Magicians’ total.

In riposte, Magicians’ combined bowling efforts meant that only two Sparks batters entered double figures. That resulted in them being bowled out for 72. Jessica Simmons picked wickets while Banks and Kristy Havill picked up a couple each.
