Caitlin Gurrey hit a boundary in the penultimate ball of the innings as Northern Spirit defeated Central Hinds by nine wickets with a ball to spare in the ongoing Super Smash T20 on Monday (January 4). The match had a delayed start due to rain and was reduced to 10 overs per side.

Batting first, Hinds had the worst of the starts losing opener Jess Watkin for a duck in the very first ball of the match trying to slash over extra cover but caught by debutant Annie Ewart. Other opener Georgia Atkinson too didn’t last long as she departed for just one run.

Thereafter it was all between Natalie Dodd and Anlo van Deventer as the duo shared a solid 64-run partnership for the third wicket to propel Hinds to a fighting 68 for 2 in 10 overs. Dodd was the most aggressive amongst the two hitting four times into the fence while Van Deventer played a second fiddle with almost run-a-ball unbeaten 25. Dodd finished at 30-ball 38 not out.

Brief scores: Central Hinds 68/2 in 10 overs (Natalie Dodd 38*, Anlo van Deventer 24*) lost to Northern Spirit 72/1 in 9.5 overs (Brooke Halliday 27*, Caitlin Gurrey 24*) by nine wickets.
