England’s Heather Knight, Anya Shrubsole, Tammy Beaumont set to receive New Year Honours from the British government World Cup winning star cricketers, as well as the women’s cricket coach, will be honored by the Crown for their outstanding contribution in the field of Sports (Cricket). The Skipper of the England Women’s cricket team, Heather Knight, will be honoured with the OBEOrder of the British Empire (Officer) and Anya Shrubsole and Tammy Beaumont will be rewarded with MBE (Member of the British Empire) respectively.

The Head coach of the England Women’s cricket team, Mark Robinson will also be honored and appointed OBE, while the England and Wales Cricket Board director of women's cricket, Clare Connor, will be appointed the top honour of CBE (Commander of the British Empire) this year.

Heather Knight: The world cup winning captain will be presented the 2nd highest honour, an OBE, for her role in guiding England’s women cricket team to the title in June, at Lords. She took over the captainship role after Charlotte Edwards stepped down as Captain in 2016.

Anya Shrubsole: Shrubsole’s stand-out bowling performance bagged her team the World cup last year. She produced the spell of her life, with her best ever bowling figures of 6/46 in the finals of the World-Cup, and was ultimately also rewarded the player of the match. Hence, she will be rewarded for her match-winning performance with an MBE by the crown.

Tammy Beaumont: The player of the series in the recently concluded ICC women’s World Cup 2017, Beaumont scored 410 runs, which included one century that powered England to the semi-finals. Her fine batting throughout the tournament and her prolific career have earned her the prestigious honour of MBE.

About OBE and MBE honours – The recipients are honoured for their contributions to the United Kingdom, and achievements of people from all walks of life.

The honors were created by King George-V at the time of the First World War period to honour the contributions of the civilian and service-men for their war-time service. CBE is the highest honour, OBE is the 2nd ranked honour, and MBE ranks 3rd.

Women are not given Knighthood but are appointed to the Order of chivalry, the Noblest Order of the Garter or the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle. They are bestowed with the title of Lady.

Former English cricketing legend Charlotte Edwards was appointed as both MBE and CBE (Commander of the Order of British Empire) in 2009 and 2014 Birthday Honours respectively, for her service to Cricket.

The honours are announced twice in a year – once on New Year's Eve, and the second time in mid-June on the date of the Queen's official birthday. Then, the recipients are invited to the ceremony for receiving the medals from the Royal family.

This is another step forward to recognize Women in sports, and we the team of WCZ congratulate Heather Knight, Tammy Beaumont and Anya Shrubsole on being bestowed with the top honours and wish they keep inspiring the next generation also to take up the game of Cricket.
