Mithali Raj features on BBC's 100 Women List

The BBC has on Wednesday revealed Mithali Raj as one of the most influential women in India.



 



According to a BBC release, the women featuring in their list are taken from across all spheres of modern life — from engineering to the creative industries, from sport to business. Mithali's early life



 



Before cricket, Mithali was into classical dancing. During her childhood and teenage days, she learned Bharatnatyam and wanted to make her name in the same field. But it seems like she was destined for something else and later she became one of the most successful players of Indian women’s cricket team, and the rest is history!



 



Mithali often says that she doesn't want to be the female Tendulkar, but the first Mithali Raj. ‌There have been only five women cricketers who have scored a hundred on debut, and Mithali is the fourth player and the youngest player ever to do so at the age of 16 years 250 days old.







She also held the record for the 2nd highest test score of 214 runs, and the first woman to hit a double century against England in 2002.







Mithali is also the first women cricketer to have 7 consecutive 50's. Right now Mithali raj holds the no.2 rank in ICC women cricket ODI Players rankings.







Mithali is named the captain of the ICC women’s world cup 2017, which represents four countries. The 34-year- old from Hyderabad is selected as captain as she scored 409 runs in the women's world cup 2017, which led India to reach the final for the second time under her captaincy.



 



Mithali Raj deserves to be in the BBC's 100 women list, she is an inspiration for the younger generation girls in India, to choose cricket as their career. She’s sown the seeds which shall bear fruits in near future!
