Mithali awarded as the sports women of the year and the Indian women’s cricket team was adjourned the best team
Indian Cricket team captain Mithali Raj has been awarded the Best Sports Women of the year at the Indian Sports Honours ceremony in Mumbai.

Mithali also took the honour to receive the award on behalf of the entire team of Indian women’s cricket team which means it’s a double delight for the Indian women Cricket team.

On what basis were they chosen?

Mithali Raj is considered as one of the strongest pillars of Indian women’s cricket. She led India to the finals of two World Cups, one in 2005 and the other in the recently concluded one in June. The legend holds many records and now is the leading run scorer in Women’s Cricket.

The Indian team reached the finals of the recently concluded World Cup which has changed the state of Women’s cricket in India and has paved the way for many future girl cricketers to be a part of the game.

The Indian team began their campaign well by defeating hosts England before suffering two defeats in the league stages to Australia and South Africa. They made a valiant comeback by defeating New Zealand and Australia in the virtual Quarter-Final and Semi-Final respectively before eventually losing to Champions England in the final at Lords.

Mithali on receiving the award acclaimed that,

“We hope to continue that in the next year, it is going to be a busy season, we start with South Africa tour in January end”.

The legend also took to Instagram handle to share her response,

We the team of Women’s CricZone hope to see more awards received by the women cricketers though late in recognition but which they rightly deserve.
