Megan Schutt claims top spot in ICC rankings

After whitewashing England in the One-Day International-leg of the multi-format women’s Ashes series, several Australians have surged up the ICC Women’s ODI rankings. Megan Schutt, the right-arm pacer, and Alyssa Healy, the opening batter, have reached career high rankings through some impressive performances in the series.



Schutt, who picked up five wickets in the ODIs and played largely in the shadow of Ellyse Perry, rose to the top spot in the Women’s ODI bowling rankings. Although she didn’t pick up too many wickets, the fast bowler was the most economical bowler on show— conceding only 2.60 runs per over through the course of the series. Healy, on the other hand, smashed two half centuries in the series and was the most consistent batter on show with 143 runs at an average of 47.66 and strike rate of 96.62. Her impressive performances have seen her break into the top 10 of the batting rankings



Among the other bowlers, Jess Jonassen, the left-arm spinner, retained her spot at no.2 which meant Jhulan Goswami, the veteran pacer from India, slid down to third place.



Ellyse Perry’s incredible figures of 7 for 22 in the third ODI of the series at Canterbury saw her rise four places to no.4, while Sophie Ecclestone and Delissa Kimmince have risen to career high positions. Ecclestone, the left-arm spinner is now at 16, while Kimmince rose 33 places to 80th.



In the batting rankings, the only new entry in the top 10 was Healy, whose scintillating ball striking through the series saw her rise to no.7 in the list. In contrast to her form with the ball, Perry’s indifferent series with the bat saw her drop one place to third while Tammy Beaumont— the only England batter to score more than 80 runs— rose from four to two. Heather Knight, the England captain who managed only 25 runs through the series, dropped eight places to 15th.



Beyond the top 10, Beth Mooney climbed six places to 18th, leapfrogging Nicole Bolton, whose series returns of seven runs, saw her drop six places to 19th. Laura Marsh, the only England batter to pass 20 more than once in the series, rose 21 spots to No. 75. 



Jonassen, who topped the series lists with an average of 74 thanks mostly to two not outs, rose 12 places in the batting rankings to 31st. The left-arm spinner’s allround efforts ensured that she climbed four placed, from ninth to fifth in the Allrounder rankings. Perry, however, retained the top position having raced well ahead of the rest of the pack with 529 points. Deepti Sharma is next on the list with 394 points.
