Southern Stars skipper Meg Lanning signed a three-year WBBL deal with the Perth Scorchers, leaving Melbourne Stars after the first two seasons. Lanning has topped the WBBL run tally in both tournament’s first two seasons, but the Melbourne Stars failed to reach the finals either time. She will be unable to play for the Scorchers this summer, having already been ruled out of the Women's Ashes due to a shoulder surgery, and looks set to make her debut for the team in 2018-19.

"The Perth Scorchers are a great club with a strong core of experienced and up-and- coming players, so it's a really exciting opportunity for me to join the group, Lanning said". They made the semi-final in WBBL|01, and then the Scorchers hosted the final last season, so they're definitely a team on the rise, with a bright future ahead.

"It's obviously frustrating to be ruled out of this summer with injury, but I'm really looking forward to being around the team and contributing off the field, before getting on the park again for WBBL|04 and going for that championship." Scorchers will see her in orange until the end of the 2019-20 season.

Lanning’ s WBBL records are super fascinating, as she secured first rank in run scorers list, in the first two seasons with 27 innings of 27 matches. She faced 910 balls and scored 1062 runs with the strike rate of 115 approx.; her highest score in the series is an unbeaten 97 along with 5 other unbeaten innings. She hit 118 fours and 17 sixes in her 27 matches with 10 half-centuries.

She is known for her pure technique-driven cricket around the world, and her International record speaks for itself, as she's played 136 matches total for Australia and scored 5,036 runs with 12 centuries and 21 half-centuries. Her highest ODI score is an unbeaten 152 (135) against Sri Lanka Women in the recent World Cup clash where hit 19 fours and 1 six; and with the help of her innings, Australia thrashed Sri Lanka Women in the game and ruined the marathon innings of Chamari Atapattu 178* (143).
