Match Preview: West Indies v England – Match 19

Date: November 18, 2018

Venue: Darren Sammy Stadium, Saint Lucia

It would be easy to say that this is a game that neither side wants to win. On the other hand, there is the potential that these two teams could meet in the final and they want to ensure that they have the momentum.

England also face the factor of giving their middle order a chance to bat. Lauren Winfield and Sophia Dunkley have so far yet to bat during this world T20. England may want to give Tash Farrant, the left-arm seamer, a game, however, want to get one up on West Indies and will more than likely name an unchanged side.

West Indies the reigning T20 champions have shown so far that they are unwilling to let go of their crown. From now on they will have no easy games. They have some big game players in the likes of Hayley Matthews, Stafanie Taylor and Deandra Dottin. They have all hit form just at the right time.

From now on they need these players to stand up and be counted as every game becomes more important. Having a home crowd to cheer them on will mean it will make it just that bit harder for teams to beat them.

England have never beaten West Indies in the Caribbean.

Players to watch out for:

Stefanie Taylor

She is not only the captain of West Indies but one of their key all-rounders. Coming it at three she will either be required to carry on scoring in the powerplay or keep things ticking in the middle overs. If she is still there in the final few overs, then you can bet on West Indies being in with a chance of blowing the opposition away.

Natalie Sciver

The England all-rounder has been asked to step up with the ball in hand because of the absence of Katherine Brunt. In the game against South Africa, she did just that with a player of the match performance of 3 for 4. To overshadow an Anya Shrubsole hattrick takes some doing.

At some point over the coming games, Sciver will be required to score a few with the bat as well.

Conditions:

As Dottin, Sciver and Shrubsole have proven there is plenty in the pitch for the seamer. It will be how well the spin bowlers use the conditions that will determine where this game goes.

Who said what:

"The crowd really helped to push us on." - Hayley Matthews

“I'm not sure how...” - Anya Shrubsole on her hattrick
