England v West Indies

Date: 25 June 2019

The Pattonair County Ground, Derby

This is England’s last game before the Ashes series. It is the last chance for players to impress, or to fall out of favour. With the T20I series not finally won England’s first job is to win the series.

England have had the better of the games with the West Indies. There were finally signs that West Indies were finding their feet. It gives them a real opportunity to go into the final game of their tour and play with freedom. If England takes their eye off the ball then it should be a game not to miss.

Heather Knight is ruled out of the game with a hamstring strain but is expected to be fit for the Ashes. It means that Anya Shrubsole will captain the side in her absence.

There may be room for other changes. We shall see.

Players to watch out for

Anya Shrubsole

Shrubsole will captain England for the first time and will lead from the front. One of the smarter players in the side there is no doubting her credentials. She will be surrounded by players who have plenty of captaincy experience.

Stafanie Taylor

One of the biggest hitters in the women’s game if Taylor is in the mood and gets going early on then there could be fireworks. There will be less pressure for her to perform in this series as nothing is expected of the West Indies side after the manner of defeat in the ODI series.

Conditions

This will be the third T20I at Derby and England have lost on every occasion. The previous game was ten years to the day. Australia won that game by 34 runs.

Derby is a popular venue for women’s international games. It played an important part in the 2017 ICC World Cup and is a good size for scoring runs.

Numbers to look out for

Natalie Sciver is 2 wickets away from taking 50 wickets for England in T20I. Not only that but she is also 2 fours away from scoring 100 fours in T20I cricket.
