Pakistan's women's team faced a major scare when, ahead of their ODI series opener against the West Indies, their skipper Bismah Maroof suffered an injury.

During a team fielding session on Wednesday, February 6, Maroof was involved in a freak incident. In her attempt to catch a high ball, Maroof was hit square on the jaw by the ball. She was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where she underwent scans as a precautionary measure. Following the scans, she was given the go-ahead to play in the next match.

Whether or not she will be available for selection for the first ODI will be revealed on Thursday, February 7, before the match.

This injury runs in-line with Maroof's misfortune with fitness in recent times. She was forced to miss out on Pakistan's series against Bangladesh due to sinus surgery. Though she returned for the series with Australia, she did not captain the squad in the series, nor in the T20 World Cup that followed.

Maroof is an integral part of Pakistan's line-up and is one of their top-ranked batters. Pakistan will be hoping that she will be fit to play in the first ODI as they look to gain valuable ICC Women's Championship points that are up for grabs.
