Maisy Gibson will play for Hobart Hurricanes in the fifth edition of the Women’s Big Bash League in Australia. The leg-spinner, who previously turned out for Sydney Thunder made the move to Tasmania in the off-season, and has therefore made the decision to switch WBBL clubs as well.

"I've loved the move to Hobart so far and I'm really excited to pull on the Hurricanes purple this season," said Gibson.

"Although the results weren't there for the Hurricanes last season, the direction they're heading in is clear and I can't wait to be part of this team improving. The group has been working really hard in training and I think there's a big year ahead."

Gibson played 39 matches for Sydney Thunder over the course of four seasons, taking 36 wickets at a strike rate of 18. The 23-year-old’s tournament economy rate of 6.47 shows the value she added to Thunder through their association.

"Adding some quality spin bowlers to our attack was a priority for us this off-season so it's great to be able to add Maisy to our group," said Salliann Briggs, head coach of Hobart Hurricanes. "Her leg spin will complement Sasha's (Maloney) off spinners which are coming along in leaps and bounds really quite nicely and add a lot of balance to our bowling attack.

Gibson has undergone two knee constructions through her career so far and is currently taking part in Tasmania’s pre-season training camp. The team recently completed a series in Darwin.

The Hurricanes' standalone WBBL season begins in Melbourne on October 19.
