Lee, Wolvaardt star as South Africa register a victory

Natasha McLean's half-century went in vain as Lizelle Lee and Laura Wolvaardt's half-centuries guide South Africa to register their first victory over West Indies in the five-match T20I series.

Chasing 136, South Africa opener Lizelle Lee got two early lives and utilised it beautifully by punishing the bowlers with her willow. It became difficult for bowlers to dismiss her as she started hitting all over the ground. Laura Wolvaardt too joined her and because of their hard-hitting strokes, South Africa managed to score 50 runs in the powerplay.

Both added 89 runs in 12 overs. Lee amassed another T20I half-century in 33 balls. But before she could stay more at the crease, her stormy innings came to an end after she got dismissed by Campbelle's catch on the boundary line. After her dismissal, Laura Wolvaardt captained the ship along with Sune Luus; scoring a steady half-century as the visitor's romped home with eight balls to spare.

Put into bat, West Indies didn’t get the start which they are accustomed to. They lost their opener, Hayley Matthews, very cheaply. She scored 15 off 12 before getting dismissed by an easy catch to Kapp at mid-wicket. The home team managed to put up 31 runs at the end of the powerplay. They couldn't find their momentum until Dottin came after Taylor's dismissal at long-off in the 16th over. The captain scored 26 off 31 with 2 fours.

Dottin's breezy 28 off 15, along with McLean's unbeaten 57 off 61 with 5 fours and 2 sixes helped their team to put up a decent competitive total of 135 at the end of the 20 overs.

Though the visitor's won the match today but West Indies are still ahead by 2-1 in their five-match T20I series. Both the teams will play their last match on October 6 at the same ground.
