Leanne Broadley eager to get back to cricket
Leanne Broadley’s hopes to build on last year’s under-17 call-up with Scotland have revived with north-east cricket beginning to get back into action this week. The COVID-19 pandemic had put paid to her progress in the last season.

“It has been most disappointing and frustrating to have had no cricket so far,” said Broadley, who turns up for Fraserburgh.

“I cannot wait to get back into action, especially after experiencing the highlight of my cricket career last season when I had a trial in Edinburgh for the Scotland u-17s. It will hopefully lead to bigger things, including a full cap in the Scotland side.”

17-year-old Broadley is a student at Fraserburgh Academy and is aiming to go on to university next year in Edinburgh or Stirling. That would enable her to be closer to the Scotland cricket setup.

Broadley was introduced to the sport by Alan Rennie, the head coach of the Fraserburgh Cricket Club.

“Alan is a great coach, and has done so much for the game in the town, particularly in the local schools,” said the teenager, who has played at the club since 2013.

In 2018, Broadley won the Aberdeenshire Grades Junior of the Year award.
