Kent got their Vitality t20 cup campaign off to the perfect start as they beat Nottinghamshire by 50 runs at Welbeck.

In the first of three games at the venue today, Kent in the first of their two games in a row were asked to bat on a used but green-looking pitch. Kent got off to a great start reaching 40 for one by the end of the powerplay. Chelsey Rowson the only wicket to fall as she picked out Hannah Hughes at mid-on. Phoebe Franklin and Alice Davidson-Richards were able to rotate the strike that was punctuated with the odd four.

Kirstie Gordon continued her county championship form into the t20s with a wicket in her first over as she bowled Franklin who was going along nicely on 23.

It was the start of a Nottinghamshire fight-back as three wickets fell in three overs, Gordon bowled Grace Gibbs for a second ball duck. Lucy Higham saw off Kent captain Davidson-Richards who was stumped smartly by Megan Burton.

48 for 3 became 70 for 5 as the spinners took a grip of the middle overs. Jodie Hobson hung around with Lauren Griffiths and rebuilt the innings with 25. Kent finished with 110 for 8. Kent continued their revival as Tash Farrant bowling with pace and intent made the breakthrough with the third ball of the innings as she bowled Georgie Boyce.

Two wickets fell in the next over from Arlene Kelly to reduce Nottinghamshire to 5 for 3. It was a position that Nottinghamshire were unable to come back from that set back as regular wickets continued before. When Jodie Dibble was caught and bowled by Davidson-Richards any hopes of a Nottinghamshire comeback was extinguished as Nottinghamshire were bowled out for just 60.

Nottinghamshire have the chance to go again later today as they will play against Lancashire, who Kent play in between.
