Marizanne Kapp stood tall as Proteas lacking Dané van Niekerk won the match comfortably by 30 runs in the second ODI against Sri Lanka. Kapp scored an unbeaten score of 69 and picked up 2 wickets as Atapattu's 94 couldn’t help her team win the match and series.

Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bowl first. South African squad suffered a major change as the in-form Dané van Niekerk was ruled out of the remainder of the Sri Lanka tour due to a stress fracture of the neck. Sune Luus made her first appearance in the series and replaced Dané van Niekerk to become the interim captain for the series. The other change for them was Zintle Mali being replaced by Nadine de Klerk.

Kulasuriya started the match with a maiden over to Andrie Steyn as Prabodhani followed it with another brilliant over giving away only a single. Wolvaardt smashed the first boundary in the 3rd over as it was driven beautifully through the covers. Unlike the first match, when she got out on duck to Prabodhani she looked formidable and took to Prabodhani hitting her for three boundaries in an over. Steyn also joined alongside as she hit a boundary to bring up 50 runs partnership for the Proteas Openers. Shortly after, Ranaweera trapped Steyn in a leg before to dismiss her. 

Wolvaardt completed her 11th half-century. Lara Goodall opened her account with a boundary. Wolvaardt got out on 64 off 69 balls including 8 boundaries as a ball edged and went straight to the keeper.

Goodall played on to make a half-century on looking the wickets of du Preez, Luus and de Klerk. Goodall fell to Dilhari as she smashed the ball in the air, and Ranasinghe took the catch at extra cover.

Marizanne Kapp scored a blistering knock 69 off 34 balls which included 6 boundaries and 4 sixes as she hit Ranaweera for 4 boundaries in an over. Proteas ended the innings with a wicket of the last ball and a score of 268/7 in 50 overs.

Sri Lankan innings started as Atapattu paid back Kapp in her first over with three boundaries, but Kapp made a sharp comeback with the dismissal of Weerakkody. After 5 overs, rain interrupted the game and it got shortened with a target of 262 in 47 overs.

Atapattu smashed one for a six followed by 2 boundaries in the same over, and the game looked on Sri Lanka’s side. She brought up her 14th half-century with a boundary and followed it with an expensive over as she smashed Sekhukhune for six and three boundaries. Atapattu hit a few more boundaries before falling to the Proteas captain at 94 runs off 87 balls.

After her wicket, boundaries dried, and Kapp’s over resulted in two consecutive wickets - Sanjeewani at 45 and followed by an run-out. Sri Lankan Team crumbled as they were bowled out for 231 in 46.2 overs. South Africa have secured the series 2-0 after beating Sri Lanka in the match by 30 runs.
