Southern Stars left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen has been ruled out of the squad for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand due to a knee injury. Recently during an intra-squad warm-up game, she got hurt in her knee and will undergo a surgery which has put a question mark on her selection for the T20 World Cup later this year.

One of the experienced players, Jonassen has played in two Tests, 56 ODIs and 58 T20Is so far and picked up 122 wickets in the three formats. Along with her bowling, she bats well too. She has scored 978 runs in all the three formats, including two half-centuries in Test cricket.

When the squad was announced for the upcoming T20I series, team physiotherapist Kate Mahony said, “Jess sustained a knee injury in Australia’s internal trial match on the Gold Coast this week. As a result, she will undergo arthroscopic surgery later in the week, when we will have a better idea of her return to play time frame.”

As she is out of the squad now, two uncapped players Georgia Wareham and Tayla Vlaeminck got their maiden call-up in the 13-member side. Meg Lanning will lead the side while Rachael Haynes will continue to be her deputy. The three-match T20I series will start from September 29.
