Jeppe Crowned The GCB Women’s 35 Overs League Champions

New Update
Jeppe Cricket Club Women’s side clinched the 2017/2018 Gauteng Cricket Board women’s 35 overs league in a low scoring final at the Soweto cricket oval in Soweto, Johannesburg on Sunday.

Samantha Schutte and Nasseha Laher claimed 6 wickets between them to help Jeppe CC secure the title by beating Soweto Cricket club women by 4 wickets.

Jeppe CC bowled out Soweto for 76 within 20 overs with Schutte and Lather returning outstanding figures of 3/5 and 3/21 respectively after they won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Lehlohonolo Sardick efforts of 3/12 were not enough as the opening batter, Jenna Searle scored a patient 28 runs off 67 balls to ensure that her team cruise to victory in Soweto.

Soweto failed to get their innings going as there was no meaningful contribution from the top six batters in what was a poor batting display.

Their star batswoman, Gauteng Women’s wicketkeeper batswoman Palesa Mapoo only managed to score 10 runs off 25 balls.

All-rounder Keneoue Makhakhe top scored with 19(23) sharing a 7th wicket 25-run partnership with Selena.

It was sweet revenge for the Jeppe ladies as they lost to Soweto in the final of the GCB Women’s T20 first division in 2017.

The Jeppe Women’s side has won their league for the past two seasons. One team that is driven to end their dominance is Soweto.

Soweto Cricket Club Women’s 74 (19.5 Overs)

Jeppe Cricket Club Women’s 76-6 (28.3 Overs)
