Jackie Lloyd and Kevin Malloy elected to NZC Board

New Zealand Cricket welcomed two new directors to its board during its 2019 Annual General Meeting held in Auckland today.



Jackie Lloyd, with an extensive background in private and public organisations, and Kevin Malloy, prominent in the advertising and marketing industries, have been elected to the eight-strong board, replacing out-going directors Neil Craig and Ingrid Cronin-Knight.



Greg Barclay, who retired by rotation and successfully stood for re-election, was returned as chairman at the new board’s first meeting immediately following the AGM formalities.



Ms Lloyd, who only recently stepped down as Acting Chair of NZ Post, is currently Chair of both Experience Wellington (Wellington Museums Trust) and Kiwi Group Holdings; a board member of Te Papa Tongarewa, and a director of Naylor Love and AgResearch - as well as a trustee of The Lion Foundation.



She has a strong background in business transformation, human resources and leadership, previously serving as global human resources director for the New Zealand Dairy Board and NZMP Fonterra, and subsequently as a consultant and New Zealand country manager for Hewitt Associates and The Gallup Organization.



Mr Malloy, who was with global media agency Starcom for 29 years, is a current board member of TVNZ and Kiwibank; is also on the board of charity organisations the Dingle Foundation and the Halberg Foundation, and fills a consultancy role with Tourism NZ as its global digital specialist and advisor.



Auckland-based, Mr Malloy’s previous positions include the role of global client director on both Coca-Cola and P&G.;



The meeting re-elected Debbie Hockley as President of NZC for a second three-year term.



Three new Life Members were elected at the AGM: former New Zealand Test batswoman Judi McCarthy (nee Doull); former Test spinner John Bracewell, and former Test batsman Jeff Crowe.



Ms McCarthy played 11 Tests for New Zealand, scoring a century (against England in Christchurch in 1969) and five half-centuries while averaging 43.27. She also played five ODIs and was a former New Zealand women’s team manager, and former Central Districts board member.



Mr Bracewell played 41 Tests for New Zealand, becoming the first New Zealand spin bowler to take 100 wickets, while also making valuable contributions as a lower-order batsman, including a century against England at Trent Bridge in 1986.



He played 53 ODIs and later was appointed the BLACKCAPS coach from 2003 to 2008, taking the New Zealand to the semi-finals of the 2007 World Cup. Mr Bracewell is the current coach of Northern Districts.



Mr Crowe played 39 Tests for New Zealand, including six as captain, and scored three centuries – the most notable being a defiant 112 at Jamaica’s Sabina Park in 1985, against a West Indies pace battery that included Malcolm Marshall, Joel Garner, Winston Davis and Courtney Walsh. He also played in 75 ODIs.m9



Following retirement as a player, Mr Crowe was manager of the BLACKCAPS between 1999 and 2003 before, in 2004, accepting a role as an ICC Match Referee – a position he continues in today.



In addition, seven Honorary Members of NZC were appointed, in recognition of outstanding service to cricket in New Zealand:

• Bev Brentnall: former New Zealand Test cricketer; New Zealand women’s team first ODI captain



• Ann McKenna: former New Zealand Test and ODI player; New Zealand women’s team coach 1992-93 to 1998-99



• Shane Bond: former New Zealand Test and ODI player; fast bowler who took 87 wickets in just 18 Tests



• Brent Bowden: former New Zealand & ICC Elite Panel umpire. Stood in 84 Tests and 200 ODIs



• Lance Cairns: former New Zealand Test and ODI all-rounder



• Ewen Chatfield: former New Zealand Test and ODI pace bowler



• John F Reid: former New Zealand Test batsman, interim NZ Test coach, former NZC high-performance manager

The AGM heard NZC returned a net loss of $1.3m for the 2018-19 year. ICC distributions increased from the previous year and this trend is expected to continue to the end of the current eight-year cycle (in 2023).



The outlook to 2023 was described as positive following the renewal of a number of commercial partner agreements, the new domestic broadcast arrangements, and with increased ICC distributions.
