On 23rd June, Round 4 of the Ireland Super 3s resumed at Oak Hill under overcast conditions. Going into this round, Dragons, who had won both the fixtures in Round 1 led the tables with 4 points.

50 overs fixtures of Round 2 between Scorchers vs Typhoons and of Round 3 between Dragons vs Scorchers were washed out without a ball being bowled.

Scorchers vs Typhoons

Scorchers' skipper Shauna Kavanagh won the toss and elected to field first. Hannah Little and Amy Kenealy bowled a tight opening spell to contain runs. The opener Naomi Matthews fell early at the score of 6 and Leah Paul followed her after adding 32 runs with the skipper Raymond-Hoey. Kenealy claimed both the wickets.

Raymond-Hoey and Prendergast built a key partnership of 55 runs before the skipper was stumped by Kavanagh off MacMahon for 37. Late rally by Hunter and Lewis saw Typhoons reach 141-6 at the end of 20 overs.

Chasing 142 for a victory, Gaby Lewis and Rebecca Stokell gave Scorchers a perfect start as they added 52 runs for the opening stand. Lewis fell first with and Shauna Kavanagh came to join Stokell, who had already set well. She showed off her natural ball-striking ability, hitting five fours and clearing the ropes once during her excellent and entertaining 56 in just 45 deliveries.

Although the match went down to the last over, it was Scorchers who chased the target successfully with 1 ball to spare.

Match 5

Second match of the day between Typhoons vs Dragons took place in the afternoon session.

Mary Waldron won the toss for the Dragons and opted to bat first, looking to have first use of a very good deck out in Oak Hill. Waldron opened with Tomlinson and added 46 runs for the first wicket. Tomlinson continued her superb batting and built a 53-run partnership with Rachel Delaney. Tomlinson remained unbeaten on 67 in just 55 deliveries with 8-fours and a six.

With the support of Delaney and Shillington who scored quick 30 and 18 respectively, Dragons posted a total of 153-4 at the end of 20 overs. Cassie Stephens picked up 2 wickets for Typhoons.

Chasing 154 for victory, Typhoons suffered regular setbacks and soon found themselves at 56-6. But Niamh Walsh and Cassie Stephens put together a spirited 7th wicket partnership to add 70 in the process. Walsh scored 34 from just 29 balls, only to fall in the last over searching for last minute runs to add to the cause. Cassie Stephens ended up 38*.

The Typhoons eventually ended up on 138-8 from their 20 overs, leaving them just 15 runs short of their target.

Match 6

Third match of the day and final fixture of Round 2 between Dragons vs Scorchers was washed out without a ball being bowled.

At the end of the round 4 Dragons maintained their perfect start to the competition by winning all their games while Scorchers claimed their first victory.

Fixtures of the Round 5 will be played in T20 format on 29th June at the same venue.
