The International Cricket Council conveyed some concerns about the future of the Kinrara Oval, a cricket ground in Malaysia. It was constructed in 2003 and has a capacity of 4,000 people. The first One Day International to be played at the venue was between Australia and West Indies, back in 2006.

Since then, especially over the last decade, the ground has hosted many international matches. In June 2018, it hosted the women's Asia Cup, which was the third edition of the tournament to be played in a Twenty-20 format and featured six teams. Bangladesh won, creating history by beating India for the first time, then repeating the result in the final.

The ground is hosting international matches currently, too. It is the Pakistan women's teams home ground for their series against Australia. Two ODI's of that series have already been played at the venue, with one more ODI and three Twenty-20's to follow. Australia lead the series 2-0, having defeated Pakistan convincingly on both occasions. It is the first time any of the Australian players are playing in Malaysia and they have deemed the experience as "exciting" and one they have "looked forward" to.

ICC has asked the Malaysian Cricket Association, to which the ground is home to, to evacuate it as it is to be redeveloped.

ICC Chief Executive David Richardson spoke about the importance of the ground as an international venue and said it should remain as one. He also vowed that ICC would continue to support cricket in Malaysia, saying, "Cricket in Malaysia is flourishing with the number of players in all age groups growing and the ICC welcomes the intervention of the Minister of Youth and Sport and we are hopeful a sustainable solution can be found. The ICC will continue to support Malaysia Cricket and hopes the Kinrara Oval will remain an international cricket venue.”
